Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong is an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1981. It is an early example of the platform genre, where gameplay focuses on moving the character across a series of platforms while dodging obstacles. The story features Jumpman (later known as Mario) trying to rescue a damsel in distress, Pauline, from a giant ape named Donkey Kong.
The character of Donkey Kong was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, drawing inspiration from Popeye, Beauty and the Beast, and King Kong. Considered one of the most influential games of the 80s, Donkey Kong was ported to the Atari 2600 a year after its release. In the game, Jumpman must climb platforms dodging barrels thrown by Donkey Kong, using ladders or jumping over them.
