Phoenix
Released in 1982 for the Atari 2600, Phoenix was programmed by Michael Feinstein and is an adaptation of the classic Centuri/Taito arcade. This is one of the console's first vertical shooters to introduce bosses, making it a landmark in space shooter history.
Controlling a spaceship, the player faces waves of bird-like alien enemies and confronts gigantic motherships with shields, requiring precision and fast reflexes. With impressive visuals for the time and engaging soundtrack, Phoenix stood out as one of the best shooters on the Atari 2600.
