Solaris
Released in 1986, Solaris was developed by Doug Neubauer, also the creator of the classic Star Raiders. Considered one of the most technically advanced games for the Atari 2600, Solaris brought impressive graphics, detailed sound, and complex gameplay for the console's standards.
In the game, the player commands a starship on a mission to locate and save the lost colonists on planet Solaris, while facing enemy fleets, crossing galactic sectors, and dodging space obstacles. The universe of Solaris is divided into sectors with strategic maps, requiring the player to make tactical route and combat choices.
With transitions from map view to first-person cockpit view (within Atari's limitations), Solaris mixes space strategy, combat, and exploration, becoming one of the most respected titles in the Atari 2600 library.
