Star Raiders

Game Cover

Released in 1982, Star Raiders was programmed by Carla Meninsky and published by Atari, Inc., as an adaptation of the legendary original title by Doug Neubauer, released first for the Atari 8-bit.

On the Atari 2600, Star Raiders brought a first-person space combat simulation experience, a true audacity for the technical limits of the console. The player pilots a starship and must protect Federation bases against attacks from the Zylon race, navigating between sectors of a galaxy using the included Galactic Map.

Accompanying the game was a special accessory: the Video Touch Pad, a peripheral with numeric buttons that allowed the player to control functions like activating shields, switching weapons, and consulting the map.
